on our way home from the kindergarten today we saw lots of thrown-out christmas trees leaned against the garbage containers on the streetsides, waiting for the garbage-truck to come.
jonathan wanted to take them all home, to dig holes in the ground and put them in so that they could stand straight again.
i tried to explain that trees needed roots in order to live.
- then i'll glue the roots back to the trees. so they won't be dead anymore.

yes... i've been contemplating this, too. it would be strange to celebrate christmas without a tree at my childhood home, but i don't think i'll continue the tradition in my own home. i know the trees don't feel anything, but i still feel a bit uneasy about it.
AntwortenLöschenjonathan shows both compassion and practical initiative here - the best combination!
oh thank you - this is the first comment on this blog!!
AntwortenLöschenyes, i personally feel exactly the same way about christmas trees as you..
i had them as a child, but since i have my own family, we never had one. i don't know if the little ones really miss the tree, at least until now they never mentioned it. they had one last year in the kindergarten anyway ;)
